A gravel road runs past the pu'u for more than 2 miles and is a flat and easy walk

An abandoned quarry operation is next to the pu'u and a road leads to the top (we did not take it)

We hiked up the Koai'a Corridor and into the Kohala rainforest to reach the volcano summit

The corridor trail climbs open pasture and provides great views of surrounding volcanoes and coastline

The rainforest is dense and "jungle-like" with a trail that is challenging to follow

This pu'u sits across the highway from the Mauna Kea access road. It requires a brief hike over a good trail that is steep in a few spots. There are multiple well-maintained trails
